"Gratitude is the Highest Yoga"

"The attitude of gratitude is the highest yoga" • Yogi Bhajan

David, Anya, and I are feeling so grateful to have each other, our health, and our Taproot Community. It has been heartbreaking to see many Yoga Studios and other small businesses close due to the pandemic. Taproot is still here though, standing strong, and we are incredibly grateful to all of you for that. Thank you for sticking with us through the challenges of the past 9 months.

We truly are all in this together, struggling to stay clear, calm, and in a loving and compassionate space. This is challenging to do when we are scared, overwhelmed, and unsure of the future.

One of the ways that we can help ourselves and others to feel safe, present, and grounded in the moment is through connection. When we connect with others and support each other, we are sending the message to our brains via the vagus nerve, that we are not alone and therefore safer. So reach out with a note, a phone call or in-person (from a safe distance of course). Don’t let the masks get in the way, making eye contact, softening your eyes, and softening your hearts is a felt experience that can travel far greater distances than a mere 6 feet. Remind yourself, your family, your friends that you, they, we, are all loved, lovable, loving, and precious.

I feel incredibly thankful to be able to pass on the practices of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation as I believe they are needed more than ever in the current crisis. These practices teach us the life skills that are needed to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health and well being so that we can be there for those we love. When we practice Yoga it brings us into the present moment, calming and soothing the nervous system and turning off the stress response. Every time that we do this, we are building resiliency and widening our window of tolerance for challenges and discomfort. We are all stronger and more capable than we know, and it is by getting through challenges and obstacles together that we grow, evolve, and lift each other up. Please know that we are here to help in any way that we can; whether through a vigorous yoga class that wrings the stress out of you or a gentle or therapeutic class that calms and soothes your mind while releasing tension from your body. If you want some extra guidance in postures, meditation, or breath practices, you can schedule a private Yoga session for you or your family online or in the studio.

If there is anyone who is unable to afford classes at this time, please e-mail us as we are offering financial hardship scholarships.

May You be Happy, Healthy, and Free from Suffering. May All Beings be Happy, Healthy, and Free from Suffering

*All of our in-person classes are limited in space to allow for physical distancing.
