Meet our community

The antidote to our fast-paced and busy lives is connection, therapeutic mindful movement, and stillness and rest for our nervous systems.

Taproot YOGA is designed to fill these needs by providing community support, a space to connect with others, and classes and services to help you to be present, conscious, healthy, and be an active participant in creating the life you want for yourself.

Meet the founding family

Freia Ramsey, her husband David and daughter Anya celebrated Opening Day on October 20, 2018, surrounded by the love and support of their community.

From concept to fruition, they never once faltered on making their dream a reality. Taproot Yoga in Chardon, Ohio, is a special place for healing and connecting.

Meet our instructors and energy practitioners

Freia Ramsey, ERYT500, C-IAYT

Yoga Therapist

Freia Ramsey has studied many forms of yoga since 1997. She is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance and a Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Yoga Therapy Association.  Freia’s yoga classes breath centered and dynamic; synchronizing the breath with mindful movements to bring the student to the present moment. Her classes are based on the needs of the students in that moment; facilitating self-awareness and giving each student the tools to create positive change in their whole being: body, mind and spirit. My yoga teaching comes from a sincere desire to help people to alleviate suffering in their bodies and their minds. Yoga has helped me to overcome anxiety and depression, to realign my spine, to feel strong and resilient in my body and to feel a sense of deep inner peace. The greatest benefit of my yoga practice however, is how it helps me to be kinder with myself and others..  I want to share this life changing practice with others who are ready to be their best selves.

David Ramsey

David is an Intuitive Healer committed to helping individuals and communities thrive in health and vitality. His experience in the healing fields spans over two decades, with over 2,500 hours of professional training. His focus always pointing to helping individuals release those inhibiting patterns. David’s expertise and passion lies in assisting release of chronic concerns and issues on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. His approach to personal and professional growth is threefold in Body, Mind, & Spirit. When your body feels good your mind is free to create, and when your mind is free to create, your spirit can soar! “Each person walks a path. My aim is to honor that path and help them expand the awareness of who they are to release Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual disharmonies. My hope and desire is to inspire people and help them experience joy in their life more often than not.” ~David Ramsey

Rebecca Wohlever

Yoga Instructor

I came to yoga after my oldest son was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 2. Yoga created a space for me to connect to myself in a way I never knew was possible, let alone important! After a few years of practice, and with big shifts on the horizon of life, I embarked on my first teacher training. This immersion into yoga forever changed my life by helping me to find greater clarity, self-assuredness and peace.  Sharing yoga with others, whether it be through a pose that feels amazing, or a teaching that brings insight into life, has been a blessing. Whether the class is restorative and gentle or challenging and invigorating, the focus is on safe alignment through body-awareness, mindful breath work and deepening inner connection through Yogic teachings and mantra.  I love leading kirtan(a form of yoga where we sing chants together), as well as a variety of workshops for beginners through seasoned practitioners. I also teach Yogic Philosophy and Nada Yoga(sound yoga) in yoga teacher trainings.  I also enjoy spending time with my family, exploring the outdoors, and creating and sharing music in the greater Cleveland area as a singer-songwriter.

Sue Corbett

Yoga Instructor

Sue is a Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher 200 with Yoga Alliance since 2011.  She also has certifications in Advanced Reiki Training and Restorative Yoga.  One of her great fulfillment is connecting with people making them feel good and accepting themselves as who they are, physically, mindfully and spiritually.  She knows we are not all the same, so its important for her to know each Yogi and respect their bodies. Sue enjoys practicing an energetic Vinyasa which includes breathing techniques, body flow, balance, and meditation.  Heating up the body allowing the flow of energy run through.  Ahhh powerful!   She also enjoys a Restorative practice which allows the mind and body to totally relax in different poses lasting around 5 minutes in each pose.  Ahhhh, blissful!! Sue's yoga journey has been personally enlightening and loves sharing energy with each Yogi she meets on her path! Sue teaches private and group practices

Michelle Gonzalez

Yoga Instructor

Michelle began walking the path in 2011 when she attended her first yoga class as way to help destress from her career in restaurant management. She instantly felt relief and began to dive deeper into the practice. Michelle not only enjoys the physical aspect of the practice but is moved beyond words by the spiritual practice. In January of 2014, Michelle became certified in first degree Usui Reiki. Learning and practicing Reiki affirmed her heart’s desire to share health, wellness, and healing with those who seek it. To uphold her newfound dharma, she immediately enrolled in T.R.Y. 4 Life 200-hour yoga teacher training and received her certification in May 2014. In July of 2014, Michelle began teaching yoga for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation’s Employee Wellness Yoga program and Branches of Wellness. There she taught a wide variety of classes ranging from Chair Yoga to Restorative Yoga to Vinyasa Yoga. Through her own practice, Michelle began to further explore and appreciate the importance of pranayama and energy moving styles of yoga and meditation such as Kundalini Yoga. Michelle continued her path in Reiki earning her second degree in October 2014 and her master level in January 2015. She began teaching Reiki Certifications February 2016. Michelle is a Reiki Master, practitioner, wife and mother. “I finally feel like I’m home.”

Judy Venaleck

Yoga Instructor

Judy's yoga journey began with an interest in promoting holistic wellness to adolescents.  This interest led me to a personal journey of inner awareness and self-discovery. She quickly began to see the benefits - not just to the body, but how it ultimately affected her daily life.  Yoga has opened her heart towards a more spiritual practice and promoted more patience in her relationships.  It has allowed her to become more of a listener and observer towards others and it assists in her teaching on all levels.  As anyone who practices knows, yoga is more than asanas - it is the ability to bring balance to your mind, body and spirit.  It is a true gift for me to share and guide others on their journey of self-discovery and wellness and welcome anyone who is willing to take a chance and roll out their mat!

Candace Koslan

Yoga Instructor

Candace Koslen has earned a certificate as a practitioner of Ayurveda from the California College of Ayurveda. She is also a licensed massage therapist, reflexologist, registered yoga teacher and reiki master. Candace first started practicing yoga in 2004, when she found out she was pregnant with her first child. That was just beginning of her journey into herself.  She did her first 200 hour teacher training with Marni Task in 2007.  She did another 200 hour teacher training with Tami Schneider in 2008, and taught at Cleveland Yoga from 2008-2015.  She studied under many teachers for several years during her travels around the world.  Candace did Level 1 with Baron Baptiste in 2010, took many workshops with Johnny Kest, Shiva Rae, Sean Corn, Kathryn Budig, Sharon Gannon and David Life.  It was in her first teacher training that she was first introduced to Ayurveda and immediately felt drawn to it's ancient healing practices.  It wasn't until 2014, after getting into a car accident that she dove deeper into Ayurveda to heal herself.  Candace studied at the California College of Ayurveda and has earned a practitioner's certificate in Ayurveda.  During her studies she healed herself with the support of Ayurveda, coming off all medications from her car accident.  She is managing her PTSD and  migraines with the practices of Ayurveda and Yoga, forever humbled and grateful for their teachings.  She is dedicated to supporting others on their journeys into themselves. Candace now teaches yoga and does Ayurvedic consultations at Chagrin Yoga, Walden, and privately.  She enjoys spending time with her two children Ayla and Cole, her two dogs Jai and Seva, her boyfriend Shaun and her family and friends.

Vera Ceglerek

Yoga Instructor

Vera Ceglarek has recently arrived to teach yoga (RYT 200) after being a devoted student for 18 years. She has enjoyed numerous yoga styles offered by a wide variety of teachers in the Cleveland area, and around the world. She brings a wealth of compassion forged from her many years of personal practice, as well as evolving skills from her commitment to never stop learning. She is thrilled to be part of the team at Taproot Yoga Chardon. Vera’s personal practice includes daily meditation and mantra as well as the occasional aerial yoga session. She is always eager to drop in on a class with a favorite teacher or to try something new. Her teaching interests lie in structuring the yoga to adapt to the student; meeting the student wherever the individual is that day. She seeks to make yoga accessible to everyone, and to challenge those who yearn for more. “After having been on the receiving side of so many generous and talented yoga teachers, I feel the time has come for me to honor what I have learned by sharing the very best of what has been offered to me. My yoga practice has not followed a single, soaring trajectory from the start until now. It has had ups and downs, and times even lower than down. I have experienced injuries, illness and dark nights of the soul. But I’ve found that when my practice is consistent, life and all the craziness that goes along with it, is easier to handle. Through steady yoga practice, my patience is strengthened, and I find abundant compassion for myself and others when it is needed.” ~Vera

Danielle Smeach

Yoga Instructor

Danielle received her 200-hour yoga teacher training at the Cleveland Clinic School of Yoga lead by Judi Bar in 2017. Her YTT was a beautiful awakening in self-development and how to master the mind and body connection. Yoga opened Danielle's world up to the most powerful practice of all, letting go of her ego and surrendering to who she really is. In her practice, Danielle is more focused on how yoga masters the mind and spirit through the alignment of simple body movements and breath work. Physical strength follows as an added bonus to her yoga practice. Danielle's goal is to teach yoga to students through grace and guidance. And for her students to become intentionally powerful with the strength they have inside themselves. Danielle enjoys her days with her family, boyfriend, and her cat, Kitty. She loves to travel around this beautiful world, read, sit in nature, bird watch, meditate, re-watch Nora Ephron movies, garden, and cheer for the Cleveland Indians.

Tammy Gutierrez, MD

Functional Medicine

Dr. Tammy Gutierrez is a Family Physician dedicated to finding a way to empower patients to find their own path to health. After having cancer herself and also watching so many of her patients struggle with chronic illness that were not getting better with traditional approaches, she went in search of additional tools to help her patients and herself heal. She found Functional Medicine, an inclusive approach that focuses on finding and addressing the root cause of dis-ease, rather than just medicating symptoms. It also emphasizes the role of lifestyle and natural approaches to remove barriers to healing. She believes strongly that each patient is unique, and it is important to take a personalized approach to health that works best for that person specifically. After trying to incorporate these approaches within the confines of a standard family practice clinic for several years, Dr. G finally opened a small functional medicine practice here in Chardon to focus on helping patients truly own their own health and achieve wellness. She is excited to partner with Taproot Yoga to help expand access to this process through educational talks and group visits. Training: M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Family Medicine residency at UC Davis Stanislaus Family Practice in Modesto, CA, completed Institute of Functional Medicine training 2015-17. Faculty at Ohio State University School of Medicine and Family Practice Residency program for 3 yrs and then UH Orwell Family Practice for 9 yrs. Now Dr. G is working to empower patients to take charge of their own health at Dr. G Path to Wellness here in Chardon. Learn more at www.drgpathtowellness.com
